Foto Set of Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab
Photo of Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, the 23-year-old Nigerian who authorities say tried to bring down Flight 253, a Delta Airlines jetflight from Amsterdam to Detroit.
After graduating from college in London, Abdulmutallab moved first to Egypt and then Dubai, where he studied for an MBA before dropping out. It is believed that he ultimately found his way to Yemen, where, authorities think, he learned to make the device he attempted to use to blow up the Delta plane.
Father Alhaji Umar Mutallab, 70, is the retired chairman of Nigeria's oldest bank, First Bank. In October of 2009, he called the American embassy in Lagos to advise them of his concerns about his son, who, he says, had developed radical views and had disappeared, possibly to Yemen.
